#Beagamechanger SAFC and NUFC launch new mental health initiative…..

Football is brilliant, Saturday at MK Dons was brilliant, I’d imagine beating Chelsea at SJP was brilliant for Newcastle? So a good day all round, loads of beer, a dirty doner kebab, a couple of wins, a laugh with mates, proper man time…. life is good? Lots of folk in the North East will relate to these sentiments from the weekend.

SAFCBlog has on occasions not been overly complimentary to NUFC – I’d be hugely disappointed if such sentiments weren’t reciprocated! The thing is…. football is just a game – a brilliant game …. but just a game.

Todays joint initiative between the clubs is wonderful.

I enjoy writing SAFCBlog, I can’t be arsed with adverts etc….. ultimately if people read the blog that’s great, if they like it that’s great, if they don’t that’s fine. Similar to this ethos – the aforementioned initiative is probably irrelevant to most, but if you can think of 1 person that it might help, it’s absolutely priceless.

Statistics are shite, (unless you’ve gone 7 games unbeaten) – but whether we like it or not 75% of suicides are males aged 20-49…. I’m in the category, (just!), as are a load of my pals. Regardless of life chances, opportunities etc…. we will all be challenged with loss of mates, family, ill health, bad luck, poor choices etc – it’s shite, but it’s real life….. and it’s tough, really fucking tough.

The tagline of the new initiative is, “kick off the conversation….. are you ok?”. Whilst my view is a straw poll of 1, in the last year….. I’d have benefitted from someone asking me, I think I’ve helped someone by asking them and writing this has made me think of someone I’m going to ask…..

SAFCBlog cannot be arsed with retweets, likes, shares…… I will never bang that drum; lots of media is scheduled for this campaign, (In the first instance at Friday nights game); so whilst I ask you not to share, like, follow or even enjoy the shite that is SAFCBlog – if we can all kickoff the conversation, we could #beagamechanger?
