Big Game Cats Stay on Track

Well here we go, big games give numerous opportunities to wheel out footballing cliches, yes…. these are the games you want to be involved in, one game at a time, long way to go etc….. but we know and they know that this is a massive game. Yesterday I made reference to them being poor in few games lately, I don’t think they will be today and also if anything has come out of this campaign, it’s that form and league position often seem irrelevant.

We’ve done remarkably well of late, we are yet to occupy an automatic slot though, whilst the cliches dictate that if we win today, it’s just 1 game, Charlton then becomes equally as big a game etc ….. if we win today, we win the league – I firmly believe that 100%. The game has many parallels with Easter Monday two years ago,

“The Past Was Yours, The Futures Mine….”

The most encouraging aspect of the last 13 games has been our ability to get a result, I’m a huge believer in it being a results business, obviously with 9 games left that goes without saying, but I’m firmly in the scrappy 1-0 win camp. If results are good, everything is good – the reality is we haven’t played well for reasonably large parts of games, the 1st half on Saturday and most of Wembley spring to mind – but we won both so no one gives a shit. On our last visit to Peterborough we got stuffed 3-0 and had 2 men sent off, we just seemed to have a real shocker in our locker, we just look stronger now, more streetwise, I just feel this team can be trusted, it will hopefully lead us to the Championship, but regardless of whether it does, it just doesn’t feel like we have a Coventry 4-5 up our sleeve?

“Goals, Goals, Goals…. I’m looking for a good time”

Not least because the SAFCBlog Advanced Data System Analysis Algorithm has revealed that Peterborough are expected to score twice – so I’m reckoning it’s going to be Goals, Goals, Goals, a 2-2 draw would be ok, winning 3-2,4-2 or 5-2 would be even better.

Pre Teamsheet Teamsheet Thoughts…

A few weeks ago Lee had selection headaches centred around an injury list that Harold Shipman would have been proud of, now his selection headaches revolve around too many to choose from…. McGeady, Maguire, Jones and O’Brien would be the first name on most division 3 teamsheets, one or two of then will be on our bench today. McGeady will play, Jones will play, I’d be tempted to give Maguire a start in place of Gooch, not just based on form, but if there’s a man for the big stage, Maguire is the man.

Aside from Maguire for Gooch, I’d play Winchester ahead of Scowen, not loads in it – I just think Winchester is the better of the two. I’m guessing Hume is nearly fit, even if available I’d stick with McFadzean, not only has he done well recently, if we play Maguire ahead of Gooch, the last thing we need is our LB playing up front too. Thankfully Lee is the gaffer not me, but I’d go….

Burge

O’Nien, McLaughlin, Sanderson, McFadzean

Jones, Power, Winchester, McGeady

Maguire

Wyke

Realistically that’s a bit gung ho, fantasy football, Lee will have a better plan…

Actual Teamsheet Teamsheet Thoughts…

Big game Lads – The stage is yours

I’m genuinely nervous about a game for the first time in ages, I know that’s a good thing as it’s testament to the position we are in. Like everyone else I’ve no idea what lies ahead the next 2 hours, had a few bets on a high scoring win, (3-2,4-2,5-2), but anything could happen today, absolutely anything…… LET’S DO THIS…

COME ON YOU BEAUTIFUL RED & WHITE WIZARDS OF WONDERLAND🔴⚪️⚫️“

3pm…..🔴⚪️⚫️
10 minutes…. it’s obviously very windy. First corner of the game goes to us, appreciate it’s difficult conditions, but a terrible corner, not the end of the world as this happens at all levels, I’m absolutely amazed that Grant is deemed the man best equipped to take corners.

12 minutes…. a great block prevents McGeady from making it 1-0, it was goal bound 100%, but for a great headed block from Beevers, yes was a goal butt for the head of Beevers.

20 minutes….. decent start, much the better side, we are playing well and controlling the game.

Yesterday the commentator in the Mags game called Dwight Gayle by the name of Dwight Yorke, today’s commentator has just referred to Darren Ferguson as Duncan Ferguson, I don’t suppose it matters, but what a fucking shambles. I’m sure SKY pay their commentators well, I write this for fuck all, (my choice), and some bellend from Arbroath emails me to point out it’s Ross not Rod Stewart.

30 minutes…. McFadzean had done better of late, he’s all over the place today. On two occasions speculative punts have left him hopelessly exposed, and they nearly scored just now with him completely out of position

37 minutes…. Jones has already had their left back on toast, he’s now booked,Jones could really tear the lad a new arsehole now?

Half time…. we’ve played well, they’ve been better the last 10 minutes, but on balance I’m happy with that so far. In a tight game the importance of set pieces is huge, our corners are absolutely fucking shite, (see graphic below), the club have their own Stats Man now, surely he’s aware of this?

2nd HALF…. LET’S DO THIS…

52 minutes…. almost from McGeady

60 minutes….. nervy as fuck this, my prediction of a goal fest looks misplaced, the longer this goes on the more it looks like 1 goal will be enough to win this. Huge 30 minutes or so, it’s long time since I’ve felt this tense… automatic promotion is in our grasp, further to this the play offs are looking like a really horrible place to be, given that Blackpool and Portsmouth are both bang in form.

63 minutes… chance for Peterborough, great save from Burge, yes Burge not fucking Burn, how hard is it to get the names correct?

65 minutes…. oh shit. 0-1. Tidy finishing, but we had plenty of men back, weak as piss defending. We need to score – simples

70 minutes…. 3 subs, good move from Lee. We’ve been poor 2nd half, no point losing 1-0

Load of subs ✅ “if it’s broke, try and fix it!✅”

80 minutes…. 💥🧨⚽️ McGeady 1-1. Lovely. May as well win now?

💥⚽️ pick that fucker out 💥⚽️ 1-1 🔴⚪️⚫️

89 minutes….. fucking hell….. the post saves them with the keeper stranded

5 minutes added on….. huge amount of character shown in the last 20 minutes or so

1-1 …. FULL TIME

Take that, ultimately a good point, automatic is the only way to go, can’t handle the alternative.
