Defeat at Coventry

It wasn’t to be……defeat at Coventry

It’s been done to death now…..

  • Lapse of concentration?
  • Controlled the game thereafter?
  • Lacking the cutting edge?

Are we good enough?

In short…… YES 100%,  Coventry are a good side, we should have got something out of the game? There’s absolutely no reason why we can’t gain automatic promotion.

Changes to the starting 11 vs Gillingham…..

Game of Oninions as always, there’s a few of them who are a bit off it? Gooch hasn’t played well for the last 3 games, likewise Denver. It’s hard to make changes when you’re winning, (and rightly so), conversely sometimes things just need a freshen up? Changes don’t have to be a negative, it should be looked at as using the squad rather than dropping players.

After the defeay at Coventry we may see some new faces line up against Gillingham

We needed a striker in the January window…..

Yeah, we probably did – but so did the rest of the league, apart from a few teams, who are trying to hang on to what they’ve got? Charlie Wyke gives 100%, I’m sure he would concede that he doesn’t score enough goals.

Parkinson has a good grasp of the market, the reality is we didn’t have any brass to spend. Boyce would have come to us rather than Hearts, but it was £250k we weren’t going to spend. Obviously there’s no guarantees with any signing; it hasn’t happened, (as yet), for Will Grigg at SAFC…. but at the time, it looked like a great signing? Once the main fan groups had decided they no longer loved our owner, and crucially the timing of the statement, essentially guaranteed no money would be spent on a striker in January?

It’s easy to forget…….

…… that watching SAFC has been desperately depressing for years. We all know what level we are at, but prior to Parkinson coming, I think I’d genuinely enjoyed about 6 home games in 3 seasons – we’ve had 5 or 6 that I’ve really enjoyed in the last six months!

Let’s not forget how desperate we have been the last few years?

In Summary…….

Disappointing yesterday, but we remain in the mix for automatic promotion. In October we were drifting towards L1 oblivion, whilst it was disappointing to lose the game – these are the games you want to be involved in? Improved fitness has been massive, as have some big managerial decisions.

Phil Parkinson and Steve Parkin SAFC
We all know the size of the club and the size of the job…… BUT…….someone is going to get it right. SAFCBlog remains confident we are in safe hands.

Morbid fascination…….

Aside from writing this I don’t engage in anything SAFC online. Anyone backing SAFC is equal, I miss a couple of games a season, lots never miss a game – it matters not, health, money, time, work, family……. the list of challenges is endless. Maybe I’m just unlucky, but fucking hell some people are negative?

We have 10 games left, yes 10… let’s make it 10 cup finals. It’s a very small sample size and maybe I attract negativity – I don’t have the IT skills to do a graph on here – but if I did I’d do one of my WhatsApp activity when we lose vs when we win? I guess it’s the same at all clubs?

Just stay positive…..
