Feeling Positively Negative…..

Fortunately yesterday’s game was of little real significance, but we all saw what happened. Once again we were pitiful, we all know our defence is makeshift, so whilst it’s not wholly appropriate to hang out individuals, they are shit makeshift, statistics can mislead – although thankfully we have the highest goalscorer and goal assistor, otherwise we’d be royally fucked.

SAFCBlog built on Positivity…

I’m generally pretty positive about SAFC, that said it’s also important be honest in ones opinions, having watched the last 6 games unfold, honesty and positivity don’t go together at present? So is it that bad? Why the negativity? For me, it’s worse than that, overly negative but…. There’s not really any point comparing this season to the Jack Ross season, we came within a whisker of promotion under Suave Scotch Super-Shagger Jack Ross, he got it badly wrong at Wembley, but on the whole I felt we went through the season just needing a break, McGeady injury at key moment, Maja transfer etc of course you make your own luck, but I never felt we were far away under Jack.

Jack Ross, (left), being bothered by some pisscan pre season In Portugal

it’s not fashionable to give Parkinson any credit, but the first half of this season felt ok progress wise to me, we just didn’t quite get the breaks…. failing to win at Donny and Fleetwood having dominated, Flanagan dismissal as we looked to win the game at Charlton – once again much of this was our own doing and criticism re: not making substitutions is fair to an extent.

….Onto the here and now, we all know the defensive situation injuries wise, but the whole demeanour of the team worries me, in fact it terrifies me, there’s probably nothing to be gained making these comparisons, but I actually think quite a quite a bit has gone our way in the 2nd half of the season, (again much of our own making). We’ve had shit loads of penalties, we’ve regularly taken the 1st chance we get in a game, the standard of the league is fucking terrible. Much was made of it being in our own hands, let’s remember we never actually made it to the top 2, we went to Peterborough and Hull and comfortably avoided defeat, never has there been a better chance to go up?

We have injuries, but we are currently a shambles defensively, last time in the playoffs 1 goal over 2 games got us to Wembley, that’s fairly typical of the playoffs, if we go into these games giving crap goals away every game, we will struggle to achieve promotion.

Grant has had a great season, but can’t play 2 games in a week, Gooch has been poor, (but did have his best game on Tuesday night), McGeady has proven me wrong and his delivery creates most of our goals, he does have the look of 2 years ago though, in that he looks like he’s running on empty? Jones has loads of skill but it’s easy to see why he’s in the loan market? Winchester is 5/10 every week, Scowen has been terrible, Power is a better captain than a player, Luke’s head must be puddled by now as he plays all over? Jack Diamond is ok but no more than that, Chris Maguire has the imagination, flair and talent to affect big games – he doesn’t play though.

There’s no doubt Lee Burge has shown plenty of character this year, but ultimately, it was always fair to say that Jon McLaughlin earnt us an extra 8-10 points a season, It’s probably fair to say Burge has cost us 8-10 points? Water under the bridge now, but if that short armed prick from Oxford had given Jon the contract he was desperate to sign, we’d have up to another 16-20 points. This is a bit harsh on Burge as JM was probably a Championship keeper, but it doesn’t make him any less crap.

Up front Charlie has been tremendous, sadly we’ve not a lot else?

I’d rather not be negative, realistically I’ll feel better tomorrow once I forget about yesterday’s shitshow, but we need to recapture some momentum for the playoffs…. can we go up? Of course we can⚽️ – Don’t think twice, it’ll be alright one way or another
