Fleetwood Match – Go Your Own Way

‘Go West, where the skies are blue”

It’s a bit of a nothing game tonight, I’d have gone if we were allowed, so I’ll be tuning into the SAFCSEE live Stream to watch because I’m allowed to do that. As always it’s a shame we can’t go, whilst it’s all a bit weird on the western side of the Pennines, it would be lovely to be heading over the A59 tonight. We’re back there again in 2 weeks time for a proper game. It’s often said  on our travels that its the journey that matters, not the destination. I can survive without watching a shite game of football, but I’m really missing the whole package. Loads of my mates are through football – I missing the laughs. More so I’m just missing the experience….. last time we were at Fleetwood, we met a SAFC fan who had walked from Blackpool to Fleetwood, he’d eaten 8 tangerines on said walk and could report that there isn’t a single bin between Blackpool and Fleetwood, (that can’t be true?) he did give me his card but I’ve lost it, but…. this is the kind of high end experiences that I’m missing the most.

Pre Teamsheet Teamsheet thoughts

Once again tonights eleven will bear little resemblance to the team that will face MK Dons at the weekend. I’d hope and expect Embleton and Neil to start tonight, it’s also another opportunity for players to stake a claim to be involved on Saturday, I’d also expect a few U23s, who whilst benefitting from the experience are not quite ready yet? It’s safe to say that the management team won’t have had any sleepless nights induced by selection headaches following the Mansfield game?

Last time we played at Fleetwood they went 1-0 up after about 10 minutes, from that point onwards the ballboys were 100% under instruction to not retrieve the ball, waste time etc, Joey Barton Shithouse Behaviour of the highest order. Funnily enough when we equalised on 80 minutes, they perked up a bit. I subsequently wrote to the FA about this issue, 10 months on I’m yet to receive a reply, the Fans Game my arse!

Ballboys should not……a) be grown men, b)have a seat, c)be on their phone?

“Large police presence after reports of a ‘criminal lack of effort’ being reported – better tonight please Will, it’s never too late, loads had written Wyke off, now he scores every week”

Nothing Game United 0 vs Dead Rubber Rovers 0

Very limited interest in tonight’s game, I’d suspect even less interest in this blog, so I’ll keep the match report brief. I want us to win tonight, because….well I always want us to win, of late I’m finding myself also wanting us to win to avoid a meltdown of negativity towards our management. I’m fully aware that the online community is not the real world – but…… “I’d reckon we’d all agree that the aim this season is promotion, (I’m sure the management expect to be judged on this). We are at home on Saturday…… we are ‘languishing’ 1 point off automatic promotion…. we have a game in hand….. we’ve beaten the top 2 teams and outplayed the 3rd placed…… we’re doing ok aren’t we?”

There is of course limited scope for recruitment, I’m not too concerned about this, our main deficiency at present is creativity. Gooch and Maguire are probably our two most creative players, neither of them have played particularly well this season, but we all know what they can offer?

Actual Teamsheet Teamsheet thoughts

No huge surprises, Neil, Diamond and Embleton are all close to the 1st team, so they all have an opportunity to stake their claim tonight. Willis needs game time, so expect he’ll just get 45 minutes. Josh Hawkes has impressed recently for the U23s so really pleased to see him starting, realistically he’s playing for a place on the bench at the moment. McFadzean was our best player at the weekend, so looking forward to seeing him again. It hasn’t happened for Aiden O’Brien yet, but it’s not due to a lack of effort – I’d love to see him bag a few and boost his confidence. I really like the look of him in terms of attitude, sadly he’s not shown any real quality yet – tonight’s the night Aiden⚽️⚽️! I’m even going to have a few quid on you for the 1st goal!

Goal tonight please Aiden – no passing, just fucking shoot on sight⚽️

Goals, Goal, Goals…… I’m looking for a good time….

Goals win games, Goals change games etc…… I’m not writing either of them off, I obviously don’t see them in training. Danny Graham is 35 and realistically was brought in as an extra and he was free. Will Grigg cost millions, I’d love to see him score some goals, if he was to leave today his legacy would be, didn’t score goals, didn’t look arsed, didn’t seem to put much effort in, didn’t look like he wanted to be here…… he’s 29, this will be the biggest club he plays for for, for fucks sake Will, let’s not have the aforementioned as the legacy. There’s always time, apply yourself and you will be liked,  score goals and you will be adored.

Never look back…….”

The Match…….

7.45pm……..and we’re off

15 minutes…… decent move, chance for O’Brien to win me some money but he clears it, from the same passage of play McFadzean drills it and it deflects in off a defender, 1-0

34 minutes…….. Embleton hits the post, we are well on top

38 minutes……great delivery from Embleton is deflected onto the bar with the keeper rooted to his line

Half time…….. deservedly ahead, we’ve played well. It’s essentially a reserve game, but Patterson looks more competent on crosses than Burge or Matthews. McFadzean has been very good again, I’m not sure we can accommodate him and Denver in the same team though? Jack Diamond has pace, his control is very good, sadly his crossing is bloody awful – that will come though, let’s remember at the start of last season, Denver was at this stage? Embleton is a good footballer, he reminds me of Ethan Robson, who for all the world looked like really making an impact and never did – big season for Embleton, he’s been excellent tonight. Shame that Oliver Younger has gone off injured, 1st time I’ve seen him and I’ve been hugely impressed – he was probably our best player 1st half.

2nd half…… more of the same please

And we’re off……..

50 minutes……. 1-1, I’ve no idea what the lads eat at half time? Once again we’ve come out sluggish. Good to hear they still play the Captain Pugwash music after a goal even when the ground is empty

59 minutes……. carved open again, 2-1 to Fleetwood

“We’re getting a right rogering 2nd half”

72 minutes……. they smash the bar with a great free kick.we are all over the place. It hasn’t helped having to change our shape due to injuries, but these things happen.

Very much the proverbial ‘game of 2 halves’

90 minutes….. 4 minutes added on, although if they added 40 minutes on I’m not sure we’d score? We were good first half, we’ve been second best all over the park second half. Good see some youngsters, Dobson and O’Brien not staked any type of claim to play at the weekend?

Full time….. 1-2, whilst both teams were already through, I assume that means we will be away in the next round? No idea when the draw is.

We go again Saturday, MK Dons at home…..
