Next up – Lincoln City Previewed

I’m still buzzing from last nights win, but it’s only 2 sleeps and we go again, bonkers schedule. We are absolutely flying at the moment, since the disappointing reverse at Shrewsbury, we have done brilliantly. In the last 10 games we have been victorious 9 times, the 1 draw we had felt like a win at the time due to our equaliser being the last kick of the game.

it’s been a significant amount of time since we have been able to feel so positive about SAFC, it’s an oft used phrase that it’s not the expectation that hurts, it’s the hope that hurts the most. There’s never any guarantees, but it feels different this season, in the past I’d have been fearfully hoping we don’t gas it, I’m currently expecting us to kick on and win the league.

It’s a Squad Game…

Although it’s the season after next when we play in the Premiership again, it’s fair to say Liverpool won the league last year with 11 shit hot players, a few injuries this year and Man City are going to win the league because they have a shit hot squad? Our squad is categorically better than anyone else in this division, that’s not to take any credit away from LJ etc, but a strong squad is beneficial on lots of levels…

  • Having the best players is helpful in winning matches
  • The schedule this season is brutal, being able to rotate effectively is crucial
  • Another consequence of the schedule is the amount of injuries, again squad depth is huge in this respect
  • The 5 subs rule suits the stronger squads, if you’re going to make multiple changes, it’s a bonus when you’ve got the likes of Maguire coming off the bench.

Confidence and Momentum…

We’ve got to be mindful we may have a blip, but it’s certainly starting to look like we have every chance. A few months ago Ross Stewart was at Ross County, on Sunday he made his first appearance on the bench at Wembley, last night he played his first minutes, and 15 minutes later he did this….

I started by writing about expectation, I’m not one to get carried away, but it did remind me of this….

I went for the Cheap Media Shot of Rod Stewart last night, Reason to Believe is a thing of beauty though, we have reason to believe now and it pretty much sums up from where we were under the leadership of a man who betrayed us, to now being in the safest of safe hands….

knowing that you lied, Straight faced while I cried….. Still I look to find a reason to believe….Someone like you makes it easy….. A reason to believe”

Anyway enough of that, SAFCBlog is more Poetry & Graphs than Songwriting.

“Thought this was meant to be a Lincoln Preview?”

Indeed….. we are in form, they are not, whilst we won 4-0 at their gaff it was a day when things went our way, a 4-0 win is as comprehensive as you like, but had they not missed 2 really good chances early on, it would not have been such a comfortable afternoon.

We go into the game as huge favourites, Lincoln’s last 6 games have ended L,L,W,D,L,L – just as we carried a burden of Wembley and Play Off misery for years, Lincoln will be mindful they were brilliant for half a season last time, then the wheels came off whilst there’s no guarantees in football, they look a Busted Flush, SAFCBlog Predicts a 2-0 win for the Red & White Wizards of Wonderland.

You Are What You Wearside

Lee is doing a fantastic job, given his Wembley Outfit, it’s perhaps better if he sticks with this Club Coat. No real challenge from Micheal Appleton on Saturday who will go with the Supply Teacher Look. Although who knows? Did anyone really expect Keith Hill to turn up at Wembley dressed for Delivering Skips? In Lee We BeLeeVe”

It’s a Mugs Game….

10/1 looking good now. Decision time re: Tranmere is looming!

Back on Saturday with a Match Report, some graphs and maybe a bit of poetry.
