Pre Huddersfield Thoughts, SAFCBlog #953/1000

I’m feeling giddy for a local midweek game, we could really do with a win tomorrow night, they are 2nd bottom, but we all know that league standings don’t count for much in this division and as displayed above it’s a fine line between struggling and being ok. The next 3 games are huge, there’s definitely opportunities, I reckon we’ll probably get beat at Birmingham, so 4 points from tomorrow and Cardiff is probably par? Needless to say less would be bad and more would be fantastic.

Choices

Big call for Tony tomorrow, I don’t think Simms is ready to start? Jack Clarke has been our best player this season, I didn’t actually notice him getting booked on Saturday,

FFS Jack….

Fortunately we have similar quality attacking options in Roberts and Diallo, when introduced on Saturday Roberts was a constant threat down the right, they both seem to favour playing right wing, realistically Diallo will have to play centrally as Roberts doesn’t have the physicality? I like Mowbray, (a lot), I was getting a bit frustrated hearing every week that the young lads weren’t ready, although to be fair Michut looked really composed when he came on at the weekend, so I’d expect to see him at some stage. Bennette clearly has magic in his boots, there must be an opportunity for him to enjoy a wide open pitch vs a struggling team, (realistically also from the bench). Anyway I trust Tony 100% to make the right choices✅, so he will do✅

Plans

Can’t lay this one solely at Tony’s door, but we are much worse off this season than if we’d had a fit striker? Ross Stewart getting injured was unfortunate, as was the injury to Ellis Simms, but realistically we’ve been shown to be naive to end up so exposed. Assuming Stewart comes back in December raring to go and scoring goals, there will be significant interest from other clubs, ultimately if the player/agent fancies the move, it will invariably happen? If we lose Stewart, that will not constitute an excuse for being without attacking options. I’m sure the club will have a plan?

Another Club Statement

Gross Cost 1 vs Safety Netting 0

Away fans being housed above the home fans at the SOL is clearly problematic, the club have already agreed to reopen the Premier Concourse next season, which obviously suggests that away fans will be moved next season. The obvious answer is netting, whilst it wouldn’t be needed next season and would incur a cost, the idea that the club are putting a commercial cost over the safety of fans is at best a concern and realistically grossly irresponsible?

Ok, I definitely won’t touch it then, definitely not….
Absolute nonsense❌

No coins? This is completely unrealistic and I’d say impossible to implement? There’s nothing like a long away day on the lash, to lend itself to a pocket full of coins. I wouldn’t dream of throwing a coin at any time, (well maybe into a fountain to make a wish), but like most humans when told not to do something, there is an urge to then do said thing? Taking money off people, (especially pissed up football fans), will piss them off and agitate them. I obviously hope I’m wrong, but I’d reckon the ensuing arguments etc will almost certainly lead to the increased likelihood of coins being launched from the top tier? There will be some clever, cranky theory into human behaviour – but in simple terms, it’s a stupid fucking idea.

Netting wouldn’t work? Bollocks, that black stuff they put over seats to segregate 100% does work, it can even be red not black.

The away end at Sheffield United, complete with safety netting.
Also available in blue✅ It withstood my weight at Reading, so should be able to handle a few coins?
