SAFC 2 vs WAFC 1, a brief review…..(*)

Fantastic result today, recent games vs Blackpool and Swansea have seen us be significantly better/worse for one half than the other, it was the same today. Wigan are a fucking horrible team, just full of huge lads with shit haircuts, I understand it can be effective, but I couldn’t be watching that shite every 3 or 4 days, I’d rather go for coffee with Alex Neil, (and he’s an absolute dick), It’s well documented we don’t have a fit striker, in regard to this we’ve been at best naive, realistically we’ve perhaps been grossly irresponsible? We all knew last season that if Stewart got injured, we were fucked? Fast forward 6 months and he’s got injured, I’m 100% on board that these things happen, especially given the schedule, but to be in position of zero strikers to choose from is shite. Mowbray said in his press conference there’s no viable striking options in the reserves, that’s as maybe, but once again it’s not good is it? Shirley thats the primary purpose of the reserves?

(*) Not so brief review….

I was absolutely shattered and fell asleep early last night writing this and can’t be arsed to start again, (miraculously no remotes were eaten✅).

SAFCBlog 1 vs Big Fat Brown Bastard Rovers 0

1st Half

It was fairly shite, Wigan were poor too, but being poor with a goal threat, is preferable to being poor without a goal threat? It could have been different, the disallowed goal from Roberts looked tight in realtime, it looked tight on TV, he was it seems onside?

To be fair, VAR would have looked at this for 4 minutes and still not been guaranteed to make a definitive decision?

Charlie Wyke took his goal well, he’s conducted himself well and has been through hell, ultimately it was a good outcome yesterday, in that we won, he got a goal, he didn’t celebrate like a dick, he got a decent reception when substituted, 100% respect Charlie❤️, it’s wonderful to see you healthy and playing football, (just a game), again Charlie.

Half time

“We can win this?”……. ”don’t be be so fucking daft you silly old twat, more chance of Paddington Bear getting a goal 2nd half?”

On the evidence of the 1st half and the previous 2 games, it was hard to see how we could get anything out of the game? Just when it feels like we may never score again…. and then⚽️⚽️💥

2nd half….

Just fucking brilliant wasn’t it? We completely controlled the game and scored 2 excellent team goals⚽️⚽️ Great to see Cirkin back, the obvious highlight was his assist and his goal, but he also made a stunning block at 2-1 in stoppage time. We could and should have won by more, but results are everything and delighted with the result. It will be easier and more realistic to get something from Blackburn having won yesterday, than if we had’t won. The elation and relief around the stadium and on the pitch at full time said absolutely everything about how much we needed 3 points yesterday.

The referee

Last week at Swansea the referee was an absolute disgrace, I didn’t think he was too bad yesterday? Most refs would have called back the clever quick freekick that led to the winner? Embleton was a key factor in us winning yesterday, on another day, (probably if we were away from home?), he could have seen red yesterday? Whilst red cards change games, I mostly couldn’t give a shit about bookings, in the bigger picture it’s all about the end result? That said, Patterson getting booked for time wasting when he wasn’t and Pritchard getting booked for absolutely nothing, were both an absolute travesty, there’s no right to appeal /opportunity to get rescinded? But FFS ref, you got both of those wrong?

Not one for the referee when has a load of helpers in the technical area, but just after we’d equalised and had Wigan were under the cosh, their gaffer gave Max Power a slip of paper, Power then signalled for the keeper to go down, (cramp is not an injury?), Richardson then used the stoppage to conduct a teamtalk and adjust his formation whilst the physio wiped the keepers nose for him. Clever?✅ Should be allowed?❌

Wigan

That’s 4 wins in a row vs them, they came into the game with the best away record in the division. They will stay up, so I suppose that’s the aim for a league 1 chub, ( morning Jim👍), I never knew Max Power had a long throw, but why would I? They are all 6 foot plus cloggers, whilst we have the likes of Roberts & Clarke with magic in their boots⚽️🔴⚪️❤️.

SAFCBlog photography news

Another fucking shambles yesterday, photographer made his own way there but forgot to take any photos, (one job?). I’d taken my eye off the ball IT wise and my phone died after 20 minutes of the game, so the only pictures are 2 shit pictures from the drive home…

New week > same shit pictures

No such concerns for Blackburn on Tuesday though, got a trialist photographer, (claims to be bringing a camera with him). Fresh from Media Whore Modelling Duties at Villa Morretti, I’m expecting big things from Pub Landlord Chesney Slazenger…..

Moving up to a whole new level on Tuesday ✅💥📸

Tony Mowbray

You could hear the relief in his voice post match

At least when I was covertly photographed checking my phone by the Sunderland Echo at Swansea last week, I didn’t know I was being snapped?

The Championship

It’s a fantastic league, it’s mental, to have 20 points already is brilliant, (especially without a striker at present). Can we challenge? Of course we can, why be negative when being positive is better?

Mental league as discussed, but in 3 games time when we will have played 17 games, we will have played all of the current top 10.

2 sleeps til Blackburn

Blackburn either win or lose, (no bad thing as draws are shite), their form this season has a perfect symmetry…. W,L,W,L,W,L,W,L,W,L,W,L,W,L,W…. don’t even need a graph to establish that means we will WIN on Tuesday. Victory would set up a massive gave vs table topping Burnley next Saturday. The Championship is brilliant, after the abject misery of 4 years in League 1, this type of game is exactly why we needed to get promoted?

All is good⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️ Blackburn preview at some stage tomorrow.

In other news

SAFCBlog is primarily a football blog, but a recent review of it referred to it as, ”not just football content, but an informative lifestyle publication for the modern world, 10/10”, (Matthew Jones Blackpool – Author)….

Maybe we can appeal those yellow cards after all?

Missed a trick not backing Wyke as 1st goalscorer yesterday, but how on earth were Lincoln 10/1 to win at Ipswich?

  1. Great read mate, left my phone upstairs, watched MOTD2 as Arsenal bagged me 130 sheets, came up to bed, not a stitch on, opened phone and the Blog is there, what a weekend. ⚽️🕺
