SAFCBlog……The Year That Was

In a couple of days it will be one year since the inception of SAFCBlog……

SAFCBlog, Day 1…..

I love going to watch Sunderland play, I love talking about Sunderland. Up until 10.45am Saturday March 16 2019 I was unaware of what a blog was…. by 11am I’d bought the domain name www.safcblog.com for 3 years, (don’t drink strong German lager at 9am kids).

The last year……..

A lot can happen in a year? SAFCBlog favourite the Queen famously described 1992 as an annus horribilis. The catalyst for this was the divorce of Charles and his young wife.  Appreciate it’s not a like for like comparison, but Curbishley, Pullis and Reid were sacked as relatively successful premiership managers….. as the saying goes……

………”be careful what you wish for?”

Is SAFCBlog any good?

Tough call this one…… an idiot takes photos, (when he remembers), and I do the words. This is article #300. The great thing for me is, I enjoy doing this, I’ve no desire to make money from it.

It would be easy to have a load of shit ads offering the chance not to win an iPhone, cheap holidays, hot chicks in your area and other such nonsense. You won’t ever see that on SAFCBlog. Traffic decent now, (sometimes 3000 a day!), but it will remain as Unsocial Media, and I really couldn’t give a shit if it’s retweeted, followed or liked…. just read it and hopefully enjoy.

Fucking idiots?

Not going to argue otherwise. SAFCBlog is made up of 2 SAFC regulars with various guest appearances on our travels.

The idea……

Plan was to write Match Previews and Match Reviews

The reality…….

As article #300 suggests, I can’t help myself, posting something pretty much every day!

The outcome……

Football is a game of opinions and opinions will always differ. SAFCBlog tries to be fair, with the emphasis on being positive and not being too serious.

What’s the point / why bother?

I enjoy it, it’s been a great healing process for losing our dad, I’ve connected with some really good people. Above all else, the blog has helped me understand mental health more and some good people out there have been a great help to me and I’m pretty sure vice versa.

Thought it was meant to be light hearted?

Fair point…….

I dread to think how many miles we’ve covered in year 1? Given a home game is the thick end of a 200 mile round trip, I guess the answer is plenty? Whilst it’s not a numbers game……

The year can be summed up as thus…….

SAFC Blog 28 home games

Music is brilliant, lots of songs referencing years, ranging from the genius that is Elvis Costello to the absolute dross that is Simply Red. Swedish pop duo ABBA also a contender….

ABBA – FIT

It’s just a game though?

Of course it is, a brilliant game…. but just a game. I love football, but it is just a game
