SAFCBlog Midweek Millwall Preview

SAFCBlog Prize Draw

The inaugural SAFCBlog book is well under way, (*), the inspiration for this was a book by a Blackpool Blogger, his Blog is OK, but not great, so how hard can it be to write a book?

Blackpool are a great club and based on a straw poll of the 5 Blackpool fans that I know, all 5 are very decent folk. The book is great – SAFCBlog has two copies to give away, due to the power of computers this can be done simply and fairly. Yesterday 602 people read SAFCBlog, all the IP addresses were fed into a BIG CLEVER COMPUTER, and two people were chosen at random. Both of the prizewinners opted for the no publicity option, they will both receive there book and Limited Edition Fritidsklader Bookmark in the post, (* postmen having 2 days off in protest at having to deliver letters, so delivery will be Mon / Tues).

Mad schedule at the moment, next week is a tester with Reading and Watford away, (SAFCBlog will be there to report), before that we host Millwall on Saturday.

Are Millwall any good?

Realistically most teams in this league are capable of being decent, Millwall, (like Bristol City and QPR), are not likely to challenge or struggle this season. Realistically that’s a realistic aspiration for us, we’ve been competitive in every game thus far, Saturday is the type of game that we need to be looking at winning?

I’m a huge advocate of looking forward, not back, it’s great that we are looking at another attendance towards 40’000 against a proper club, this and another step up will hopefully become the new norm?

On the subject of looking back, their last visit was a 2-2 draw with all four goals down to calamitous goalkeeper errors, thankfully we now have a decent keeper rather than 3 crap ones.

Championship vs League 1

It’s a massive step up, we are doing ok to be fair? As you’d expect better players make this a better / tougher league, the quality in the set pieces is a huge improvement, QPR wonder freekick aside, the quality of the corners is much better. I like Patterson a lot, he needs to boss the 6 yard box from corners on Saturday, Millwalls main threat is bizarrely a defender, if we give Ryan Cresswell a yard from corners, he will score 100%, assuming you read this Tony, double up on him, (Ellis Simms and one other).

Injuries

The injury to Cirkin is a blow, the injury to The Highland Haaland is a nightmare. Realistically we have been an injury to him away from being exposed for over a year? I’ve no idea what the free agent market consists of, but we probably need to have a look? The flip side is that it’s an opportunity for Simms and the other young signings to shine, realistically Stewart will be off in January anyway? I’m not sure whether we can recall Winchester straight away, but we may as well. The schedule is gruelling, our best fit players are probably Bathh, (already without his preferred pairing), and Evans and Pritchard, (both of whom are never far away from an injury).

Conversely – what do I know?
