Another game tonight, is it a big game?…Hard to tell really. Everyone connected with SAFC would cite promotion as a priority, but given we’ve got this far surely there’s a case to crack on and win it?
Pros…
- Winning games is a good thing for confidence and momentum
- We’ve hammered Lincoln the last two times we’ve played them, win tonight and we own them, it will give us a real boost ahead of our league game next month. Lincoln are top of the league, for me they look more Wycombe than Luton, there’s absolutely no reason to fear them.
- If we reach the final, the game at Wigan will be rescheduled, looking at the current schedule this game would likely be deferred til late April / May, you’d have to expect them to be relegated by then, we know only too well that games in hand don’t always work out, but as must win games go, Away at an already relegated Wigan is fairly appealing.
- We can only win certain comps, it’s a trophy etc. It’s all down to personal preference etc but I couldn’t really give a shit about the competition. The limbs when McGeady scored to make it 2-2 vs Portsmouth are often referred to, I can genuinely say, my first thoughts when he scored was that we might miss the 7pm train. That said I get the viewpoint that we don’t exactly win loads, I just can’t get too excited about it.
Cons…
- It’s an extra couple of games in an already chaotic schedule, any injuries would be bad news
- Our priority has to be the league, our next 2 games are Burton and Fleetwood, since we decided to play in division 3, from 10 matches with these teams we have yet to win and have gained just 5 points from a possible 27. I would trade tonight for two league wins, but sadly it doesn’t work like that.
In Conclusion…
Winning tonight is the way forward, whilst there’s never any guarantees you’d have to think we would beat Tranmere in the final, it will also be quite amusing that if Portsmouth win the 19/20 final on the Saturday, we will take the trophy from them less than 24 hours later.
Lincoln City FC…
They are top of the league, we won 4-0 at their gaff, we all know this league is mental. Whilst tonight is a chance to give gametime to a few, I’d expect both teams to be pretty much full strength.
Pre Teamsheet Teamsheet Thoughts…
No idea really, whilst it’s a chance to rest a few, we want to win. I’d rather see McGeady and Wyke start and come off after an hour, than be on the bench. One interesting selection centres around Chris Maguire, he has bags of talent, he has in the past been a bit of a shithouse, his involvement, (or otherwise), tonight will signal whether he has a future at the club or not.
Actual Teamsheet Teamsheet Thoughts…
6pm…
On the proper TV, (Sky not Council)
Fuck knows what’s going on with LJ, shite club coat again tonight.
10 minutes… decent defensive header from Luke, he’s gone gel heavy tonight, (for the cameras?), but it looks like he has had his haircut.
20 minutes… pretty dull, they are the better team, but it’s 0-0 so that’s irrelevant
35 minutes… you never know with live sport, but nowt happened yet – I should have watched Calendar, (hindsight etc), I don’t even want to know if it was a Christine Talbot Night….
Half time 0-0 ….. rubbish game
Despite the lack of goal action there are lots of questions to be asked, we need a winner tonight although I don’t know whether it goes straight to penalties or whether we have to have extra time? I normally watch Kirsty and Phil st 8pm so hopefully it’s straight to penalties…
55 minutes… 0-0, terrible game, I’m 87 miles away from Wonderland, it looks to be drizzling, Luke’s hair can only take so much, I’m retracting my earlier view and would like to say, he’s not has his haircut. Desperate game, one team will win 1-0, could be either.
60 minutes… Maguire on. Desperate game, one moment of quality could settle this, we have the players on the pitch who can offer said quality.
63 minutes…. 1-0 Lincoln, it was probably our throw in, but that’s not a defining decision and their was a significant passage of play thereafter. Decent assist from Burge parrying the shot to their striker who couldn’t miss, (no offence Grigg)
74 minutes…. 1-1, McGeady cross > Wyke header > ⚽️
89 minutes…. still 1-1, a draw probably a fair result, but….. no such thing as a draw tonight, SKY have informed it’s straight to penalties, whilst it’s all relative, that’s exciting(ish)?
Finishes 1-1 …. penalties. Whilst it might not seem overly exciting to non IT types, I’ve always fancied doing a live graphic of a penalty shoot out, what an absolutely tremendous fucking time to be alive…..
