SAFCBlog Statement Friday SPZL

MATCH OFF

It’s Off

News

Most reading this will be aware of a significant news event that has developed over the last 24 hours? Understandably it has lead to a statement heavy Friday…

Black and White Statement SPZL

A Game of Opinions…..

The nature of Social Media will undoubtedly provide some fairly inappropriate content over next week or so, anything disrespectful or inappropriate is abhorrent and lacks class, it is however important to maintain the ability to have an opinion.

SAFCBlog Statement….

SAFCBlog was saddened to hear yesterdays news, I’m proudly British. I use this blog to write about sport, I don’t comment on politics etc, it’s not relevant to my writing this. The Queen has been a tremendous pillar of our society for as long as most people can even hope to remember, the obvious link to the Armed Forces is something to be admired, celebrated and respected.

There’s no football tomorrow, for me this is the wrong call. Any passing is sad, in far too many cases it can be tragic, it’s appropriate to respect the loss and sadness, but to be 96 and as sharp as you like right up until ones passing a good effort I’d say. There won’t be anyone reading this who hasn’t suffered loss or experienced grief, not one single person. When my dad died it broke my heart, he went far, far too soon, whilst at the same time not quickly enough when his race was run. I miss him every day, the night before his funeral i played a golf match, (won✅), I got up the next day dusted myself down and did what had to be done, this wouldn’t be for everyone, but grief is a very personal, intimate choice.

To suspend sport has no consistent logic, it’s a real cliche and I didn’t know her, but I genuinely believe she would have wanted the show to go on, I genuinely believe that to be the case. Football, (and other sport tomorrow), could have provided a perfect opportunity to celebrate her life – minutes silence, black armbands, National Anthem – the impact from positive action will always eclipse not doing stuff? There will of course have been individuals who felt going to the match tomorrow wasn’t for them, that’s understandable and we should all have that choice?

Going to the match would have been my preferred option tomorrow, I’ve had a busy week moving furniture, cliche but I live for the weekend, not going tomorrow is a real negative for me as I enjoy it and it’s a huge positive for my mental health as a modern man. My preferred option wouldn’t be everyones, I would have more opportunity/inclination at a sporting event to pay respect than I will now have tomorrow – but it would be my choice, if a choice was offered.

STATEMENT ENDS

The beat must go on? All roads lead to Reading⚽️

  1. Agreed, missed opportunity by cancelling all games – not just for fans, but for all those involved working at matches etc.
