Shrewsbury Town Away in Preview

The games keep coming, consecutive Desmond’s have put a bit of pressure on us to kick on. We’ve been in Division 3 for two and a half seasons now and we’ve never really got momentum going, Sept & Oct in Season one under Ross and Jan & Feb under Parkinson I suppose, but generally just as we look like we might kick on and go on a defining run, we don’t. Lincoln are doing brilliant, it has shades of when Luton pissed the league 2 years ago, if they keep going for another 5 or 6 weeks, two automatic slots effectively becomes one.

2 become 1”……it amazes me that in this day and age there are still people who don’t rate Bunton as their #1 Spice Girl? For me it’s a no contest, the one from Seacroft with the Big Knockers remains popular, but it’s Bunton all day long for me.

Big Week Ahead…

There’ll all big games etc, but this week has the feel of a crucial week. We normally beat Doncaster and they were rubbish at their gaff, but they are on fire, they’ve won the last 5 and they will fancy their chances at the SOL. We were a bit lucky to beat Shrewsbury the other week, they are the epitome of a bang average L1 side, although they are exactly the type of side that we’ve laboured against. The only time you need to win a game, is in the cup or when the mathematics of points comes to the fore, we don’t need to win on Tuesday, but it’s pretty bloody close to being that way. I think always we will win, apart from Donald Love I have no idea who plays for them, SAFCBlog Predicts SHREWS 0 vs CATS 2. Whilst we’d all like to see an attacking masterclass, it doesn’t really matter how we win, just that we do win. Watching your own team is always tense, but yesterday’s game was actually a really good game, which doesn’t happen often.

WiFi Wanderers 0 vs Radio Rovers 2, (Blackburn, T 12, Savile J, 14)

Fucking nightmare yesterday, as if moving house wasn’t enough hassle, my wifi is shite, thankfully EE are a dream to deal with though and I can’t give them enough credit, as it only takes them 7 days to press the on switch. I had intermittent coverage yesterday and it actually was more akin to my usual Away Day experience, in a game of 4 goals I’d normally work on the basis of missing at least 1 of them. Nigel The Geek is coming round tomorrow to try and solve the connectivity issues, but it may be limited coverage once again on Tuesday night. I appreciate this is not ideal, as I often, (*), receive emails commending me on the in depth analysis of the 90 minutes, fear not normal service will be resumed on Saturday.

If I’m faced with limited coverage again I will endeavour to try my best to recreate the real experience of a Tuesday night at Shrewsbury Town, watering down beer and leaving it to stand for 3 hours is easy, as is buying a shit pie and microwaving a few times during the day. I’ll work on the finer details if need be, social distancing etc will make it difficult to get a load of young lads round to smoke in my toilet and throw beer around at half time, but there’s loads of opportunities, for example – I’ve become pretty much cashless since this flu malarkey started, even for a coffee I tend to use a card not cash, I’m going to pay for everything on Monday & Tuesday with a note, so that I’ve got circa 23 one pound coins weighing down my pockets by kick off. These things don’t just happen, it’s all about the planning.

The Standard of League 1 …

it’s rubbish, some strange results yesterday, (notably Burton beating Hull), we are still in touch with the leaders but we are going to need a decent run at some stage. Hopefully this week is the start of that, I’m more of a Grapher than a Statter, but we have drawn loads of games since we decided to play in Division 3, we don’t often play well for 90 minutes, we have been mostly between 5th and 8th for almost three years….. let’s stop saying we need to go on a run, and let’s actually do it. This league is pants, it’s 100% there for the taking, not just for us though…. for Charlton, for Oxford, for Portsmouth, for Doncaster etc. Let’s just kick on and finally get out of this league eh?

It’s that fucking simple lads
