Given the magnitude of the game and the fact I’ve got nowt better to do, I thought I’d do an updated preview for Sunderland v Pompey.
The teams last month in a friendly match, which ended in a draw. Read more about the Sunderland v Pompey Checkatrade Trophy final here safcblog.com/portsmouth. Whilst Pompey and Barnsley look to be in the box seat – I’m sure there will be twists and turns come what May?

Joking aside – Pompey are a proper club, with proper fans, who’ve been though similar shite to us in recent years.
For the footwear enthusiasts amongst us – in 1984 a group of well dressed men appeared at a stadium in West Yorkshire wearing the finest Adidas even seen.
Kevin Ball played for both- he’s a top man. Another fine fella, Alan Knight played loads of games for them, respect to his fantastic achievements on and off the field of play.
Anyway – enough trivialities, onto the facts and the match preview.
Portsmouth play at Fratton Park – it’s a bit shit – but quirky

They’ve not really got any history – but won the league cup once when no one else fancied it

In the 80’s they were less shit. Mark Hateley was their star man

They have the famous “Pompey Bells”, which are a bit annoying

The official Portsmouth supporters club is called the ‘657 crew’ – which refers to Alan Knight making over 650 appearances which is a nice touch
Should be a great game
