Sunderland vs Lincoln City preview

Saturday sees the first game of 2020 at the SOL, Sunderland vs Lincoln City.

The turn of the year is often a time for reflection and of course looking forward, who knows where 2020 will take us? Whatever the fortunes of SAFC both on and off the pitch, SAFCBlog will be on hand to write about it.

This is post #209 since I started in March 2019, so whilst the quality may be questionable, the quantity is at least impressive! Aside from following 4 people on Twitter, I’ve ditched Social Media, I’ve always championed that football is a game of opinions – I’m sure lots won’t agree with my opinions – but that’s all good. I started the blog for a number of reasons, a laugh, a parallel process to losing my dad/Matchday partner, a passion for all things SAFC, I enjoy writing and reading about SAFC, I’ve got a bit of time on my hands…….Basically lots of reasons.

So if you enjoy reading that’s great, if you don’t enjoy reading it that’s equally fine. We are totally independent, just me and an idiot with a beard who’s good with computers. The beauty of this is, you’ll never see any adverts, links, surveys, polls, requests, merchandising etc –even if you do enjoy reading it, there’s really no need to retweet, share, follow, say nice things etc – the aim is to be as unsociable as social media can be – in a good way.

Football is brilliant, SAFC fans are brilliant and in 2 sleeps time we host Lincoln City – what a time to be alive.

Lincoln come into the game with back to back wins against high flying, (albeit wobbling), Ipswich and Peterborough. I thought they’d do well this season and my prediction was a 5th place finish, they’ve sold a load of tickets, (3000 ish), so they will arrive on Wearside in buoyant mood for their first ever visit to the SOL.

Sunderland v Lincoln City match preview

Lincoln away – depressing

Defeat at Lincoln City earlier in the season

When we surrendered to defeat at their place, they hadn’t won in 7 games and had lost their previous home game 6-0 – after beating us they then didn’t win for 5 games, to be fair this probably says as much about us and our Autumn form as it does about them?

The visit to Sincil Bank was the last game for Jack Ross, the pressure had been building on him and whilst SAFCBlog liked him – walking away from Lincoln it had a feel that his tenure had come to natural end.

Beer in the Lincoln City fanzone

The tenure of Jack Ross hit a wall at Sincil Bank……

Watching Sunderland has been mostly hard work over the last few years – the 2-0 defeat at Lincoln was right up there

Whilst we were poor at Lincoln, they looked very good – they had width and pace a plenty and to be honest it could have been a lot worse than 0-2?

We were shite – add to this McLaughlin being played out of position, DeBock looking like he’d won a raffle to play, a keeper error for the softest of soft goals and McGeady looking like he really couldn’t be arsed – plan B was to bring Will Grigg on after 53 minutes!

Sunderland v Lincoln City

I’m of the belief we are much better equipped for the challenge that lies ahead this weekend.

There’s no doubt still disharmony amongst our fans as to the current position – mid table in L1 is piss poor…. but we have played well the last 2 games, the return of Gooch has made us look so much more threatening, the next 2 games are at home – to suggest our season is over is just not true.

Got to better on Saturday than it was in October? Sunderland vs Lincoln City

Potential for a decent atmosphere, hopefully we won’t let their stupid drum into the ground?

Sunderland vs Lincoln City Prediction

I think we will win, (but I always think that), SAFCBlog predicts a 3-1 win for the Red and White Wizards of Wonderland.

  1. I always thought Lincoln City would have a good season along with Rotherham United.
This league is wide open and there for the taking and my belief that we will get promoted this season has never waned.
Parkinson seems to have at last found a line up which includes Gooch and Hume that can hurt teams if the last two away games are anything to go by.
Maximum points from the next two home games and we are right back in the mix.
The good times are just around the corner for our club again.
