Tuesday Night…. WeGan to Wigan

Post Charlton….

We lost yesterday, we actually created more than we normally do, but we lost. It’s Cliche Happy-hour at SAFCBlog Towers, but it is all about results now. Mistakes have and will continue to be made, the only currency now is points, to get points you need to win games and to win games you need to take chances – we didn’t manage this feat yesterday – we go again on Tuesday. Last time we lost the response was brilliant, same again please Lads🔴⚪️⚫️

Blogging a Dead Horse….

When I started writing this blog, the idea was to preview games and then write about the day out watching the Lads, I’ve now written more about games we’ve not be allowed to attend, than games actually attended. I’m sure it’s the same for all clubs, (obviously relative to fanbase etc), but it’s pretty heavy going following the Lads digitally rather than in real life, Social Media is obviously optional in terms of consumption, but it’s fucking hard going when we lose a game? I’m going to see out the season with previews and reviews, then take a sabbatical, (religious for holiday). The only ways that a promotion is a genuinely enjoyable experience, (as opposed to outcome), is if you piss the league or you come from nowhere and eclipse expectations, neither are relevant to us – I dearly hope we go up, unlike a curtailed 35 game season, you get what you deserve over 46 games, there’s no way Hull and Peterborough won’t lose games, (and if they don’t, they deserve promotion).

Chasing Rainbows….

Like everyone else I was gutted yesterday, obviously this was due to the result, but more so that for the first time in nearly 3 seasons of Division 3 football we had the choice to be Chased, rather than be The Chaser. I’d hoped that by end of play on Tuesday after our game in hand we’d be in the top 2, we’re now not going to be – the psychology of hitting the top 2 is huge. I don’t really take a huge interest in other teams, but there’s no way that the other contenders haven’t been looking at us as the team that they need to stop?

7 games… 21 points to play for….The Chase is on

Enough of the relevant shite…..

….. indeed, we might go up, we might not, we probably need to win at Wigan, but you can read that type of analysis anywhere? SAFCBlog acknowledges it has a responsibility to provide an in-depth analysis of our opponents?

ARE THEY ANY GOOD?

They occupy a relegation slot, they won 4-1 yesterday, (albeit against Doncaster who seen to have eluded lockdown rules and found a beach to occupy), when they visited Sunderland they were bottom of the league and beat us…. so in short, I’ve no idea what to expect, no easy games etc, but they won’t lack confidence and they are fighting for survival, so it definitely won’t be easy?

As discussed league positions are a fair reflection of a teams efforts, but it’s that time of year where you’d rather play a team with 58 points than 38

IF THEY OFFER US A PLAYER WHOS SURNAME BEGINS WITH G – TELL THEM TO FUCK OFF ON THE HORSE THEY RODE INTO TOWN ON….

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, Will Grigg was not a great signing for us, regardless of how the deal was negotiated or his desire, (or lack of), to be here…. we bought a pup! If the reported fee of £4 million is accurate, they effectively tucked us up for circa £3.95 million – Think fucking dire, rather than on fire….

Will Grigg, (right), Crap

We also signed Jordi Gomez from Wigan, he had a wand of a left peg and we’ve had much worse signings, but when you watch a lot of football sometimes you remember the most trivial of things. Six years ago in a Premiership, (yes!), game away at Stoke – he took 3 corners and didn’t manage to keep any of them in play, (see graphic below),

Our midfield 4 at Stoke for that game….. it’s no wonder Catts was fucked by the age of 30?

OUR LAST VISIT….

Whilst it’s always freezing at Stoke, our last trip to Wigan in January 2013 was probably the coldest day ever recorded, we won 3-2, pretty sure Fletcher got a few and that all the goals were at the far end and I remember watching it on Match of the Day that night, (last game on obviously)

FAMOUS WIGAN FOLK….

Musical genius and style icon Richard Ashcroft and Corona Virus Super Spreader Kay Burley are from Wigan….

Richard Ashcroft – Class
Kay Burley – a shitter version of Fiona Bruce

WHAT’S THE SCORE GOING TO BE?…..

I’m thinking goals, goals, goals? We score every game….. they got 4 at donny….whilst only a friendly following the suspension of National League North, Wigan’s Reserve team beat York City 26-0 on Friday night!

“Made to work for it??….. yeah, sounds like a tight game?

Match report Tuesday night.

THE CHASE IS ON….
