Tomorrow England will hopefully lift a proper trophy for the first time in my lifetime, I was a bit miserable about it all in my last post….. listening to the radio a lot over the last few days, it’s dawned on me that… this really is fucking massive. I used to go to England games, I don’t anymore, the reality is as a fan of a generally under performing club side and a nation that has failed to deliver in my lifetime – I’ve perhaps become less results focused than I used to be? I’ve really, really missed going to Footie the last 18 months….. I’ve watched the 90 minutes online, but realistically is the 90 minutes where it’s at? Tomorrow the 90 minutes are massive, I wasn’t alive in 1966…. But like so many others I was introduced to the beautiful game by people who spoke so fondly about ‘66…. this is fucking massive…. football is a good game and will remain as such, but…. community, belief, belonging, hope, despair, friendship, passion, elation, pride, loyalty, train cans, service stations, heroes, villains are but a few features of an almost exhaustive list that makes the Beautiful Game, well…. Beautiful

I really hope we do it tomorrow, for me it’s a tough one to call… probably 50/50. It’s fair to say that the 2 best teams of the tournament meet in the final, (not often that happens), so game on…. Enjoy…. And hopefully we can do this🏴⚽️

1990…..
It’s not 1990, it’s 2021, we didn’t win the trophy in 1990, hopefully we will in 2021. Like most people my age, I lose my keys daily, reset my online passwords regularly, get heartburn if I eat cheap meat, often forget appointments and on occasions literally don’t know what day it is….. we lost to West Germany, (not even all of Germany), on 4th july 1990 in Turin, I can remember it like it was today…….

I was 19, I was working at Tesco in York, it’s not a skill I’ve really taken forward, but if you came to the deli counter on my watch and said “about 8 ounces”, I was rarely more than a 1/4 of an ounce out?, Unknown to me at the time a few months later I’d be headed to Sunderland Polytechnic and life would never be the same again, but the commencement of 31 years of watching Sunderland was not even a thought…..
