Bristol Rovers Preview and Tuesday Night Spy Club

Another Great Gone – RIP Frank Worthington

Up Next – Bristol Rovers

A rare midweek off for the Lads, although Blackpool vs Peterborough is a key game tonight, (more on that later), our next assignment is a trip to Bristol Rovers on Saturday. The disastrous impact of our defeat there just over a year ago has been well documented, if that wasn’t enough to feel we have a score to settle, they are now managed by Joey Barton.

His status as Pantomime Villian is largely self perpetuated, underneath it all he’s clearly got a decent footballing brain, we failed to win in any of the 5 meetings vs his Fleetwood team, the fact you’d probably not take any of their lineup is testament to the organisation and fitness of Fleetwood under his stewardship. I know he’s unpopular and I understand why, but there’s no way that the absolutely gutless showing by Fleetwood at the SOL recently would have happened on his watch?

Everyone’s Game My Arse

When we played Fleetwood on New Years Day last year, they went 1-0 after about 8 minutes, thereafter the ballboys, (grown men), were categorically under instruction to not retrieve the ball….

It’s a lot of years since I was a ballboy, but…. the sole remit is to quickly retrieve the ball? A seat and a phone should not be required. It’s nearly 16 months since I wrote to the FA, (recorded delivery), about this. Whilst being busy, (very), I have once again somehow found the time to write to and email the FA this week to flag up this particular area of shithousery that Barton favours.

Barton was appointed last month….

The contract is reported to be 3 years, although if results are favourable it could be reduced to 20 months

I’m sure Bristol Rovers have thought of it, but he’s due in court in June 2021

Sky Sports News dramatically captured the moment police stopped his car from leaving Oakwell on the day of the ‘alleged assault’

Assuming he doesn’t get sent to practice his table tennis in the summer, I reckon it’s a solid appointment for Rovers. We were crap down there last season, they also caused us plenty of problems in September at the SOL. We need to be on our game as they are desperate for points too…

They’ve got a huge game vs Swindon tonight, but it’s tight at the bottom, 4 of the bottom 6 will go down.

We are lucky to have a striker that scores for fun, Rovers lost their best player and main source of goals to Peterborough in the summer, like so many teams they’ve struggled for goals this term, with no one yet to reach double figures. Despite their need for points, there’s no reason for us not to win the game, we have 30 more points than them, (from a game less), given our very realistic aim of automatic promotion, this is a game we really should be winning. Another Big Game Tonight…

Despite us not playing tonight, there’s still lots at stake, it’s just that time of the season,

Both Blackpool and Peterborough are in the mix for promotion, we still have to play at Peterborough and twice vs Blackpool, this will be my game of choice tonight. Purely looking at results, Blackpool look on a bit of a charge and Peterborough look like they are on the wobble, it will be interesting to see what they both look like tonight, anything other than a Peterborough win will be a great result for us.

We know only too well the complexities of the relationship between games in hand and points in the bag, managers will always cite that we can only worry about our own results, come 9pm tonight, the title could for the first time officially be in our own hands, given our current form that can only be a good thing, a very good thing.

Living The Dream….

Paid my £10 to watch a game that involves 2 teams I have no real interest in. I just like watching Footie, in 1993 I went to a night game, (with overnight stop), at Wrexham vs Colchester because it had a bearing on York’s promotion hopes – £10 to watch a random Division 3 is a relative steal. I watched Blackpool the other Saturday when we had the World Cup Final of Pizza on the Sunday, they weren’t bad, but they lacked attacking threat, not what you need when you’re faced with Darren Ferguson? (Alledgely)

The BBC Radio Lytham Work Experience Lads inform me it was 4-3 last year, bizarrely only 1 Blackpool player survives the starting 11, that would perhaps explain why they are ok this season as opposed to shite last season?

Kick off soon, Tenpole Tudor on the Tannoy, (strictly speaking Tannoy is a brand name, so I should really say Public AddressSystem?)

just say no

Our ref the other day was absolutely shocking, Tonights ref is Andy Madely, without going libel heavy, my initial thought was he was struck off from being a ref for his un PC comments? There was also, (unproven), talk of him bothering dogs, anyway it’s not him, it’s his brother. So no story there.

57 seconds….. 1-0 Blackpool, wasn’t watching but chat show host Jerry Yates scored.

7 minutes ….. handball by Peterborough keeper, (outside the box obviously), Radio Lytham lads have absolutely no idea what’s going on, genuinely not a clue.

35 minutes…. The only downside for Blackpool is it’s only 1-0, they look very good, Peterborough look absolutely shite! But I guess it’s only 1-0, surely Peterborough will create something at some stage?

Half time….. 1-1, Blackpool been good, Peterborough been shite, both scored once.

50 minutes…. penalty to Blackpool…. SAFC fan favourite Jerry Yates hammers it home – 2-1.

58 minutes…. 3-1. Good goal. We all know that teams are erratic and unpredictable in this league? Blackpool have been very good, but Peterborough are absolutely shocking – getting a draw at bottom of the table Rochdale is now looking like a good result for Peterborough? We don’t impress every week, but Peterborough look terrible – roll on Easter Monday

73 minutes…. leaving early to beat the traffic, back Saturday with all the action from Bristol – FTM

As it stands…..

All good

Having recently looked at how to, (scientifically), not be quite so shite at corners and how to, (scientifically), not get caught on the break from said corners, it would be remiss not to analyse the corners of our forthcoming opponents…

SAFCBlog – Worse than it was a year ago – FTM

I need to read up on the Government Guidance to finishing COVID, pretty sure that after 12th April we can, (legally), go to Blackpool and bumble about on the 17th April when we play there? As a much better man once said….. Hit The North🍊”
