AWAY the Lads….
It feels like we’ve been to the NW a lot recently, probably because we have? Fleetwood, Blackpool and Wigan in the last 3 weeks, there’s shit loads of clubs in close proximity over that way, these teams have a load of easy away days… we all know our support is fantastic, it’s 152 miles from Sunderland to Wigan, our closest league game is 111 miles – the fact that we travel in such numbers is remarkable.
At the other end of the spectrum are teams like Wigan…..
Go West…..
SAFCBlog travelled solo tonight due to the ex photographer being at work, I had various other options – but driving midweek suits me as it means I don’t have a load of beer. The hunt goes on for a new photographer, but thanks to Steve Cass for stadium pictures and me taking a few on the way over – the standard is again better than it used to be….
Steady drive over, stunning evening too…..
The Match….
- We start well and control the game missing a few chances
- Great goal from Broadhead
- 1-0 up at half time, should be more
- 2-0 after another cracking goal
- Crucially we stay on the front foot and see the game out with consummate ease
- It’s just a cup game, but we were excellent – it probably should have been 4 or 5. Credit to the lads who came in, (especially Burge, as it must be difficult for him?)
- Perfect scenario really as the lads that came in have given LJ the type of selection headache that gaffers often allude to
- Last 16 now – given the league is in the bag, we may as well win a cup too? Draw tomorrow night, not fussed who we play, although Brentford away would be my preference
- Onwards and upwards⚽️🔴⚪️⚫️
Not sure I could replicate the journey, but got home in record time, (via Colne?), saw a man stood with a carrier bag and a long coat at the gate to a field of cattle in the middle of nowhere and a lay-by of what I suspect was Doggers. The only downside was there’s no kebab shops in the countryside, ,so had to slum it at the services on the M6….
We go again Saturday….. back tomorrow to assess the draw for the last 16⚽️
