This Time Last Year

Well OK, it was the 11th not the 9th, but it was the Saturday night and on the 11th I’ve got something better to write about. I’m sure it was a mutual feeling, but I was sick of playing Portsmouth; we’d lost down there, drawn at Wembley and drawn at home – now we were playing twice more in 5 days.

Looking back, we gassed automatic promotion in a big way – after the wins at Accrington and Rochdale, we were pretty much home and dry? We all know we drew too many games, but having lost just twice in 39 games, to lose 3 of the last 7 games was not very good. Ultimately the draws were the killer, but 6 points from the last 21 is not promotion form?

The assumption with the people I go with was that, we’d scramble through to Wembley and then lose in some kind of heartbreaking manner?  No such pessimism from SAFCBlog, I obviously hoped we would win, I expected us to win the Play Offs  – our owners clearly needed us to go up?

The win a year ago was a decent game won by a great goal, had Ozturk not been wrongly dismissed, we’d have probably put the tie to bed 2 or 3 nil?

Bizarrely low crowd, (lowest league crowd for 8 years!). I’ve since watched CM fussing about it on STID 2, although he wasn’t that arsed was he? Not like the Bradford sell out, which was his gig? I’m pretty sure it was our 62nd game of the season, it was on TV at 7.45pm on a Saturday night….. surely Season Ticket Holders should have got tickets for nowt?

Anyway – at least we had some footie to enjoy this time 12 moths ago….

Job Done, All Roads Lead to Portsmouth……

Here’s the report from 12 months ago…….

Saturday 11.05.19

So, Portsmouth again, this time in the first leg of the play-off semi final…. I’ll be honest, I’ve nothing new to add, having played them a lot lately. I’m wary of going down the dark route of reporting on the events of the 90 minutes…. slippery slope? Before you know it you’re watching Game of Thrones, drinking fruit cider, cycling as a hobby, wearing fun socks, liking cats not dogs, having your own portable coffee cup etc etc

So…. rather than turn into a crank/loon ~ I’ll offer a short review and try and do a better review after our game on Thursday night.

Nervous as owt all day Saturday

Head north

Mr Blue Sky…. “sun, sea and Chris Maguire”

“The road to hell”
”road to nowhere”
”I’ve been down that road before”

Fuck it, switch Spotify off you bearded fool and get TalkSport on

Stadium porn

”right lads ~ just stand around and it’s job done”

Pitch looking good for the Spice girls next month. Close season poll as to “which spice girl you’d like to spend some time with… to follow in the close season” (those not choosing Emma Bunton will be entered into a raffle to win a Game of Thrones box set”

lots been said already ~ but rather than disappointing… the attendance was bizarre? (Lowest league crowd for 8 years????)

“Love you Stewart Donald xxxxxxxxxxx don’t worry about the £9.7 million gap in the club accounts ~ thanks for the shiny seats and selfies…. #more questions than answers…….”

He looks how I feel at the prospect of a 750 mile round trip and a night at the Fratton IBIS!!

“full time tonight = half time? Unless there’s extra time? ~ fuck it… just draw 1~1 and it’s job done”

Half time 0~0

Full time 1~0
